Exercise: Where and what your daemon is made of

Great for when you cannot hear your daemon

For this exercise we are only focusing on what we feel when we reach towards our daemon and does not focus on how to hear your daemon. A daemon who is still unaware of themselves may not readily pop out with a name, form, or personality. It needs a little nudge first to wake up. So, let’s get to it!

Place yourself in a relaxing environment. You could play music, have a scented candle going, or just rest in silence. Take deep, slow breaths, and forget about all the anxieties around you. You will want to stay focused but not make yourself uninviting to stray thoughts just in case your daemon tries to reach out to you. Now, it’s just you and your daemon. Changing your mindset to include your daemon is going to start prompting the brain to also make the switch and help separate them from you. You should do this even when not actively trying to communicate with your daemon.

Start to pay attention as you think about meeting your daemon. As you greet them, joke around, say it’s time to wake up, speak up, whatever you wish to say. You could even ask questions or contemplate on what they will be like. Communicate and keep the intent of making a connection to your daemon strong. Or instead of speaking you could mentally poke around. With each poke make sure you are thinking about your daemon. If you do not feel instantly drawn to a specific area pick a starting point and start going through different locations throughout your body.

Pause after every attempt. Did you feel something different? Here are a few things you may find:

  • Pressure in parts of your head

  • Lightness or heaviness on your heart

  • Limbs suddenly feeling active or tingly

  • Pulling

  • Flutter in your sternum

  • Weight pressing down more now than it was before you started

  • Energy or electricity feeling focused at one spot

  • Soreness or stiffness

Did you feel anything pushing or pulling because they disagreed with anything you thought or were trying to guide you to the correct location? If you feel drawn to a specific spot trust your instinct and focus on that area. Keep speaking and keep poking.

If you think you found your daemon what kind of energy do they exude? Are they:

  • Large

  • Small

  • Hyper

  • Calm

  • Warm

  • Cool

  • Nervous

  • Excited

  • Youthful

  • Tired

Any emotion or sensation you experience during this exercise note down. If there was any images or thoughts that felt out of place or you think might have belonged to your daemon also note down. Although the focus was only on impression there is no reason to discard anything else that happened during the experience. Everything is important and all impressions should be analyzed and retested next time.

Knowing where your daemon is located and becoming more familiar with it and the reactions they give will help with communication. As an example, my daemons are found at my heart so as they speak I will feel a lightness there. If this doesn’t work for you I would say your daemon isn’t much for expressing themselves through abstract concepts and there will be a better way for you to connect.

Something to keep in mind is how faint or hidden your daemon may be, or if it is being covered by and confused with something you defined already. Emotions you are familiar feeling may also house your daemon. Examples are:

  • Your gut instinct

  • The butterflies in your stomach

  • Guilt

  • Excitement

  • Disappointment

  • Apprehension

Why this exercise first instead of trying to talk to them or hear their voice? Some daemons have difficulty speaking or may not speak at all. This can cause confusion or be very discouraging for both the human and daemon. Knowing how your daemon feels is very important and worth cultivating in my humble opinion.
